Aquatics
Decathlon believes swimming is a sport for life. So we give kids lots of opportunities to learn to love the water.
Find out how to register your kids today.
Pre-swim Team
Pre-swim Team is a good opportunity to train for swim team participation. Coach Larry Harmon teaches all four competitive strokes and how to do flip turns and starts. Kids will work on stroke technique for half the time, then endurance and speed for the other half. Our goal is to hold intrasquad swim meets and swim meets with Decathlon's sister clubs, Courtside Club and Pacific Athletic Club.
To participate, children must be able to swim freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke proficiently.
Private Lessons
One-on-one lessons allow our coaches to adjust to kids' learning styles and accommodate parents' schedules. Parents can tell coaches what their goals are for the kids, and we'll set up an appropriate lesson plan to achieve those goals safely and efficiently. Kids will love improving at their own pace.
- Single lesson (30 minutes): $42 for Active Family members, $68 for members and $95 for guests
- Six-lesson (30 minutes) or Four-lesson (45 minutes) package: $173 for Active Family members, $210 for members and $250 for guests
Group Lessons
Group lessons give kids the chance to learn by watching others. And our class environment is both supportive and fun. Offered from late spring through summer, group lessons are divided into the following levels:
2-week sessions (25 minute lessons): $90 for Active Family members, $120 for members and $125 for guests
Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays
Tadpoles: Phase 1 (3-4 years)
Covers the initial process of introducing the inexperienced swimmer to the water environment, developing confidence and being at ease in the water. Skills learned include: floating on front and back, exploring arm movements and basic water safety rules.
Guppies: Phase 2 (4-5 years)
The beginner phase aims to build on initial confidence and encourages swimmers to becoming completely at home in and under the water. Skills learned include: front and back glide, treading water and underwater object retrieval.
Minnows: Phase 3 (6-8 years)
The focus is now on building competence in the basic elements of propulsion, using the main swimming strokes. Skills leaned include: front crawl, back crawl, sitting dive, survival float and dolphin kick.
Dolphins: Phase 4 (7-11 years)
There is an aim to consolidate aquatic skills and teach controlled breathing, so that pupils can swim competently. Skills learned include: Breaststroke, dive, elementary backstroke and coordinating butterfly.
Sharks: Phase 5 (7-12 years)
As well as the further development of the main swimming strokes, this phase acts as an introduction to the early stages of training in competitive swimming. This provides a basis for swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle and continues with some more advanced activities in other disciplines. The development of both basic aerobic swimming endurance and speed are integrated within the program.
